Here’s another example. How about eliminating that break in your voice as you sing higher and “flip” from your chest voice into your head voice (sometimes called falsetto)? You probably already know that when you sing your voice gets it tonal quality by resonating either in your chest for the lowest part of your range, or your head for the highest part of your range. As you sing higher, you may experience a distinctive “break” or “flip” as you switch from one resonator to the other. Did you know that it’s possible to train your voice to resonate in both? It’s called your “mixed” voice and mastering it allows you to not only eliminate that hard break between chest and head, but it also allows you to sing the notes around that break with less strain. First, sing up to where your 'break' occurs. Now drop down a couple of notes and sing in a whimpering voice with the word "nay," gently climbing back up in you range. If you keep a slight crying sound you'll notice the tone climbing behind your soft palate and settling more into your head voice. All this should happen without breaking. Obviously, it is very difficult to teach this or any other vocal technique when you can't actually hear the demonstration, but you may still want to give it a try.
